Lord Sharkey

Chair

Lord John Sharkey has been Chair of the SHCA since 2016, leading our important work delivering change for patients and improving the health and care system.

Lord Sharkey is a Liberal Democrat Peer in the House of Lords and has a strong record of active involvement on healthcare issues, including on the recent passage of the Health and Care Act.

Baroness Wheeler

Former Vice Chair

Baroness Margaret Wheeler was a Vice Chair of the SHCA until July 2024, having been involved since 2013. Baroness Wheeler is a Labour Peer in the House of Lords.

Baroness Wheeler left the role of Vice Chair in July 2024 when she was appointed to the role of Government Deputy Chief Whip.

Baroness Chisholm

Vice Chair

Baroness Carlyn Chisholm rejoined the SHCA as Vice Chair in March 2022. Baroness Chisholm is a Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords, having previously worked as a nurse. 

Baroness Chisholm is a member of the COVID-19 Committee, which recently published a report with recommendations on a long-term approach to wellbeing in a COVID world. Baroness Chisholm has a particular interest in the integration of health and social care.

Baroness Sater

Vice Chair

Baroness Amanda Sater joined the SHCA as a Vice Chair in 2023. Baroness Sater is a Conservative Peer in the House of Lords.

 

Baroness Sater has a keen interest in the importance of sporting activity in promoting good physical and mental health, and is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Sport.
