SHCA, Genetic Alliance UK and the Neurological Alliance publish open letter to Wes Streeting and Sir Jim Mackey on NHS England reform
Published April 3, 2025The Government recently announced that NHS England will be merged into the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), with the aim of reducing bureaucracy and driving efficiency.
The reform was announced as Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) take on commissioning responsibility from NHS England for some specialised services, and was accompanied by significant planned headcount reductions at national and local levels.
Following the announcement, the Specialised Healthcare Alliance, in partnership with Genetic Alliance UK and the Neurological Alliance, have come together to write an open letter to Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, and Sir James Mackey, Interim Chief Executive of NHS England. It calls for urgent clarity to be provided on how planned reforms will affect care and services for people living with rare, complex, genetic, and neurological conditions. You can read the letterĀ here.
