SHCA partners with Genetic Alliance UK to publish a manifesto for rare diseases

Published March 15, 2024

With a UK General Election due in the coming year, the Specialised Healthcare Alliance (SHCA) and Genetic Alliance UK have joined forces to produce a manifesto, setting out priorities that should be taken forward by the next Government to ensure continued progress for rare and complex diseases.

The manifesto sets out the shared perspective of SHCA and Genetic Alliance UK on new and continued priorities for the next five years, aligned with the four ambitions of the UK Rare Diseases Framework:

  • Helping patients get a timely diagnosis
  • Increasing awareness among healthcare professionals
  • Better coordination of care
  • Improving access to specialised care, treatments and drugs

Action in these four areas must be taken forward by the next Government to ensure progress and improved outcomes for people living with rare and complex diseases.
